There comes a point in everyone’s life when you have to make a decision about what kind of career you’re going to commit yourself to and deciding to enroll in a phlebotomy training course is a great place to start! Taking the training classes and completing the certification exam may sound like an intimidating process and commitment, but in actuality you can complete both of those things in less than six months and at least have the option of finding a job in phlebotomy, or you can sit idle and have no more in six months than you have today!
As a phlebotomist your duties will often times extend past the standard technical aspect of things, meaning you’ll have to be somewhat capable of dealing with people. When you are puncturing people’s veins to draw their blood, there is usually a certain level of discomfort and anxiety involved; therefore, you will have to learn how to comfort and nurture people into feeling at ease for the few minutes they’re in your hands.Once you have successfully collected a blood sample from a patient, the next thing you’ll have to do is label the samples. In some circumstances blood that is collected is going to be sent to a laboratory where a lab technician will carefully exam the sample for specific traits and indicators; other samples are simply stored as donations and used at a later date when needed.
Regardless of what the blood samples are being used for, the labeling process is always equally critical and must be done properly. Everything you need to know about standard practice will be taught in depth at your phlebotomy training program.
